PLOTLaurie Strode comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago. CASTJamie Lee Curtis James Jude Courtney Judy Greer Andi Matichak Will Patton Virginia Gardner Miles Robbins
Who else is pumped for this? Early reviews say it's a return to form for the series and potentially the best sequel (which, if we're being real, isn't a very tall order for the most part). I haven't been this excited for a movie in a while. Maybe ever. One thing I notice about the trailers (and the brief clip released last week) is that the cinematography seems to be paying heavy homage to Dean Cundey's work on the original film, which is something we haven't seen from the series since he stopped being involved after Halloween 3. Most of the other sequels are honestly downright ugly, not to mention cheap-looking - including Halloween H20 which is otherwise one of the better ones. It feels like there was a lot of attention to detail here, in terms of creating the atmosphere and *look* of the original, that has been MIA from the series for a hot minute. Of course, that's all speculation based on what amounts to very little actual footage, so don't @ me if the movie doesn't have the same vibe as the promo material. But for now, I'm optimistic.

I'm also loving how much Jamie Lee Curtis seems to be embracing her horror roots now. *Sure*, it's kind of a bummer that it took her so long, and *sure part 2* it's probably mostly because she's gotta get dat promo, but it's still refreshing and exciting.

Just got back! A few quick thoughts (no spoilers, don't worry!):
GOOD: -Jamie's performance was everything I had hoped it would be. -The kills felt just gruesome enough to bring a modern sensibility without losing the spirit of the original. -Excellent cinematography. Lots of truly beautiful shots. -Great callbacks to the other sequels, despite erasing them from continuity. The callbacks are never too heavy-handed or cutesy in my opinion. -Michael is always shown effectively and the shots of him are handled with care so he stays creepy throughout. -Fave characters: Laurie, Julian, Vicky. Loved how each character had a distinct quirk or personality, no matter how small. -Fantastic third act.
BAD: -Was slightly disappointed in Judy and Andi's performances; particularly Judy's. She had one of the weakest characters though, so maybe not her fault. -Not all of the dialogue worked for me, and some of the humor does come at strange times and undercut a couple gruesome moments. -I didn't like the subplot with Allyson, Cameron, and Oscar. It felt cliched and, worst of all, poorly executed. -The pacing in the first 20 minutes or so is strange. Each scene felt too short, and each *shot* felt too short as well; choppy editing maybe? Got better after that, though. -Least fave characters: Oscar, Cameron, Aaron
Overall: 8/10. As of this moment, probably my favorite sequel but it's in a dead heat with Halloween II (1981).

Oh, fuckin hell. I had heard that there was an after-credits scene and I completely spaced it. My family was antsy to get out of there though because my sister wasn't feeling well and was being hella dramatic, so if I made them stay until after the credits it's likely I would've been physically assaulted and it's just not worth it.
I'm most likely gonna go see it again at some point in theaters, so I'll have to do it next time.
