Aka how to give Chris nightmares for a week. Twice.
Honestly this movie fucked me up hardcore and had some of the most insane imagery I’ve ever seen. And I don’t understand why people found it “boring”.

People find it boring because not an in-your-face splatterfest. The few gory scenes are legitimately disgusting instead of cool, especially given who they happen to, and the story requires you to pay attention to what's going on instead of just priming your ass to jump out of your seat.

I just watched this for the first time last night. I thought it was pretty chilling. It's not often that I find a movie to be genuinely unpredictable, but Hereditary pulled it off. I was accidentally spoiled about one of the deaths early in the film, but the impact still hit me pretty hard.
Something I noticed is that none of the grotesque imagery is on screen for very long, which I think makes it more effective. You don't have long enough to pick apart the gore effects or really even consider what's happening until the shot is already over. For me, it sort of made my brain kick into overdrive and kept me thinking about what I just saw for a longer period afterward. Some of the images in this movie are really burned into my brain, as opposed to most movies where it's cool while it's happening but I forget about it after five minutes.
