PREMISE
A remake of the 1982 TV movie of the same name. A year after 10-year-old Jennifer perished in a house fire, her family is summoned to the home in which it all went down to care for their ailing grandmother. However, just because Jennifer is dead does not mean that she is gone.
CHARACTERS
LAURA [late 30s]. A successful, happily-married businesswoman recovering from the death of her daughter the year prior. Kevin and Jennifer’s mother and Phillip’s sister. She’s come to the house to care for her mother.
PHILLIP [early 30s]. Still trying to get his life together despite a troubled marriage and trouble at work. Laura’s (slightly jealous) younger brother and Mary’s father. Like Laura, he has come to Bernice’s house to watch over her his ailing mother – though Bernice is not happy to see him.
MARY [10]. Phillip’s daughter. A lonely child whose relationship with her father is not what it should be.
KEVIN [12]. Laura’s son. Everyone’s “favorite” child. A snapshot of what adults wish their child would be: well-behaved, respectful and quiet.
JENNIFER [13]. Laura’s deceased daughter – the former “favorite child,” much to the disappointment of both Kevin and Mary.
BERNICE [late 60s]. Laura and Phillip’s mother. Bedridden and ill. Favors Laura, much to Phillip’s disappointment.
KATIE [30s]. Phillip’s wife, a frustrated and unhappy woman who is desperate to get out of her unhappy marriage.
MR. WYNN [50s]. Phillip’s boss and friend.
VAL [20s]. Bernice’s caretaker. A young and inexperienced young woman who is both aware and fearful of the spirit occupying the home in which she works.
